New Years Resolutions

This year is the year that I will keep my resolutions!

1. Lose 10 lbs.
2. Exercise 4 times a week
3. Get involved at church
4. Be more flexible
5. Limit Internet time
6. Monitor what comes out of my mouth-limit complaining
7. Lose WEIGHT!

2008

I can't believe another years has come and gone. Time flies! I actually want time to slow down, I am almost 27 and there are so many things I want to accomplish in my life. I know I still have a lot of time but I feel like the twenties are a prim time to get a lot accomplished such as: buying a home, starting investment accounts, and finishing education. I will have the education part down but therefore I feel behind on everything else....

On another note, life has become very exciting! This time next year I will have no idea where I will be...everything is so up in the air and I am open to wherever life takes me...I need a good job and have to work for a place that pays toward my student loans. I will be doing two more internships this coming summer; one in pediatrics in San Diego and the other in orthopedics in Dallas!

Overall, 2008 has been a great year! I feel I have accomplished a lot and I am on track to be where I want to be before my twenties are over. I have amazing family and friends and I feel truly blessed in many ways. I look forward to what 2009 will bring!!

Making Christmas cookies with the Boo-boo

This year was the first year that Gage took interest to participate in making Christmas cookies.

Gage did a great job helping with the cookie cutters and frosting the cookies

There are a lot of qualities that I admire about my mom and want to be just like her, however there is one thing I was hoping to not inherit from her... the fact that she's burns EVERYTHING she cooks (ok not everything, but the majority). I unfortunately burned up a batch of cookies, I learned from the best! My mommy!

Happy Holidays!

DON'T LOOK IF U HAVE A WEAK STOMACH!!

SO I got the privilege to observe two surgeries this week! A total knee replacement and a total hip replacement both done by the best orthopedic surgeon (evidenced by the way his patients respond and recover). During the knee surgery I didn't get to stand as close as there was bone flying through the air and too many people helping. A total joint surgery remindes me of watching my dad work in his wood shop: drills, saws, screws, metal etc...But for the hip surgery I got to stand within 2 feet of the table. The surgeon talked me through the whole surgery and even had me stand on a stool to ensure I could see better. I still couldn't see everything because it was a minimally invasive surgery with about a 4 inch incision but to see the whole process was awesome! I thought I wouldn't be able to handle it but I actually loved it! I actually got to see those two patients later in the day for their physical therapy evaluations and treatments, talk about an awesome day!

(got these pictures off google, so that you would all have a visual of what I saw!!)

only a few more days.....

Until I get to see two of my very best friends! Out of all the pictures we have taken together, this is still my favorite! I guess because it captures us perfectly! I have known Jenny and Melissa for a little over 11 years and have become even closer over the past 4. A patient I worked with today during my internship lost 4 of his best friends in ONE week, which made me think how devastated I would be to lose any of my best friends. I am truly blessed to have such amazing life long friends in my life!

A tree with a purpose

The purpose of reminding me why I am working so hard everyday, to one day own a home. I bought this little tree hoping to re-plant it in a bigger pot and then one day re-plant it into my very own backyard. It has the potential to grow to 40-80ft tall. I have never been a good plant owner, every time I have attempted to get a plant it has died. I don't know if I tend to over water or not water at all!? But I am as determined to keep this tree alive as I am to one day own a home, which means it will happen! Any tips on keeping this cute little tree alive are greatly appreciated!

My most favoritest ever!

During a phone conversation the day before Thanksgiving with this little cutie pie above, I asked him:
Me: Gage are you going to eat turkey tomorrow??
Gage: No, Chicken
Me: Gage I think you are going to eat turkey tomorrow for Thanksgiving
Gage: NO, CHICKEN!
Phone conversation on Thanksgiving day:
Me: Gage did you eat turkey today?
Gage: CHICKEN!!!!!!

Haha! Love this little guy, it kills me to be so far away from him especially because he doesn't like to talk on the phone but will if it's on speaker phone. Keep in mind this is the kid that wouldn't leave our cell phones alone since he was 6 months old!

Hiking in the great outdoors

How could something so beautiful be 4.7 miles away from my apartment and I not even know about it!? Today my roommate and Lisa a classmate of mine went hiking at a place that leads to an old ranch. There are so many different trails you can take depending on how many miles you want to hike. We hiked/walked 2.5 miles which doesn't seem like much but when you are horribly out of shape like I am, it was a workout! I absolutely love the fact that there are so many things to do around here and it was a sunny 73 degrees! I love the outdoors!!

I never thought...

I would ever see this again in my life time! Gas under $2.00 a gallon...AWESOME! Trading my SUV in was the best thing I could have done a year ago and driving a hybrid has saved me so much money. This week I filled up for $17 whoohoo!!!

Straight Up & Dirty

I am reading this awesome book and had to share this little part with you all now. I went on a few dates a couple months ago and the guy didn't even offer to pick me up but told me where to meet him, ha!! SO this is what I should have said....

"So here's the deal. I'm a big believer that the man should treat the woman as is she's the good china: he's got to use both hands. I believe in chivalry, in "can I pick you up?" vs. "The Bowery (restaurant)". I believe in a man treating me like I'm special, and when that happens, I'm all too willing to spring "over the top", let me give it back tenfold position. But when I don't get it, I don't stick around to respond to anything tenfold. All I want to do is run."

More to come on this book, but in the mean time buy it yourself! I got my copy on amazon.com for $0.01+ $3.99 shipping. Awesome!

Big & "Bad" Hips

It's very said to say these words at age 26, but my "good" hip is now hurting. That must mean that I have a bad hip? Yes, I do in fact have a bad hip. In high school I was one busy girl, cheerleading, track band, StuCo, you name it I was involved. On top of all those activities, I still worked part time at least 3 days a week. So one day at work I bent down to pick something up and when I stood up I couldn't walk. I mean, I literally had to drag my right leg with me. So the next morning I went to the Athletic Trainer at school and he could not figure out what was wrong with me. That day at school consisted of me dragging my leg around with me and my "friends" laughing hysterically at me. It was kinda a funny sight. I then went to my general practitioner, and shocker they knew nothing about joints, muscles or even how to test them (that's what PT's are for!) anyways, it all resolved itself and every once in a while since then my hip will get locked up and take me a minute to walk.
Within the last year, sitting in class for hours a day, my hip started locking up a lot more frequently especially when I sit to take a test, and we take a million tests. I can deal with getting up from sitting and limping around for a minute or two. What I can't handle is my left hip is now aching and I have to lift it into my car!
So I saw a few doctors this week for some crazy symptoms I was having. Since I was so busy telling the doc I thought I was having either a stroke, heart attack or had a brain tumor, I thought they would think I was crazy if I told them I might need a total hip replacement too, so I left that little detail out.
Yes I am definitely a hypochondriac thanks to learning too much in school, but something is seriously wrong with my damn left hip now!

Dx: Stress Reaction AKA Perfectionist

"There are no perfect men in this world, only perfect intentions"
I have never considered myself to be a perfectionist, but recently it has occurred to me that I might actually be one in certain situations. I consider myself a very determined and ambitious person and want to be viewed as such. I had an anxiety attack this week and it wasn't fun, it made me realize that I am way too hard on myself! I don't know when this began but I always strive to do the best that I can with any job I have had, even when it was at Sonic drive-in during high school. I guess my lack of trust in people has rolled over into thinking people might not trust my word either. I am a VERY honest person and really don't know how to be anything but honest, it just doesn't come natural to me to be anything but honest. I know some people feel it is easier to give an excuse that might seem harmless verses just saying I don't really want to or I just can't make it because of this...but it makes me not trust people even more. I like the truth regardless of what it is!!Thanks, bye.

Rustic Tomato....

All I have to say is Rustic tomato soup from BoudinSF restaurant is absolutely AMAZING! I don't even like tomato soup but this is to die for! Thanks Kel for intro ducting me to this yummyness! If you have a Boudin near you, run out NOW and get some! You won't be disappointed!

80's Kid

My sister and I used to collect Garbage pail kid cards. My sister had more than me because most of them grossed me out and gave me the hebee jebees. Things like that still do....Anyways I can across some of these pictures and it totally brought back memories. My dad actually hated these cards so much, he ended up buying them from us so we were more willing to give them up. The stores stopped selling them too, not sure if you can still find them anywhere??

I wouldn't want it any other way!

Booking a plane ticket 101

Apparently my mom and I just can't get it right....Due to a few mistakes while booking plane tickets, the following has resulted:

~$150 additional to change a plane ticket that I booked to depart from my destination airport vs. the departing city.
~Returning home at 10PM instead of 10AM...AND then getting delayed and returning home at 2:30AM instead, getting 3 hours of sleep and then working a 12 hour shift for my internship.

How else do you learn but through trial and error... MAYBE next time we will get it right...

Mr. Clean

The little cutie pie turned 3 years old two months ago today. For his birthday he got a lot of awesome gifts like the bike below... You would think that he would be all over that really cool bike BUT he also got the gift he has been bagging mommy to buy him....
Yes, that's a vacuum! I mentioned that this little guy has OCD right? His mommy also informed me that he was cleaning the walls in his room with a towel today...such a big helper! Such a cool kid, I love him to death!!

The whorest day of the year...

Halloween! It's the only day of the year that people get to dress up in very revealing clothing and it is acceptable. I really enjoy this holiday because it's always a lot of fun to see how creative some people can be.

This year I went up to West Hollywood with the very entertaining girls above! Had a great time! West Hollywood is known for it's predominately gay community so it was definitely interesting and entertaining. WHY are all the Hot one's Gay!?!?!? On another note. Below is my Ninja Turtle brother! He's Raphael (2nd from left)and the other's are his Architect Co-workers...yes these are professional men.

6 Reason you know you are a Cheerleader for life

6. Anytime you hear your high school fight school, your arms start doing the motions without you even realizing it, no matter where you are.

5. Group pictures often end in a pyramid

4. When wishing your friends goodluck on an exam it requires a cheer, G-O-O-D-L-U-C-K, GOODLUCK!

3. While in the swimming pool, stunting is a must!

2. Lifting your leg for a picture occurs subconsciously and is out of your control.

1. When getting together for the holidays with your fellow cheer teammates and Best friends for life, this is how you pose!

A-B Honor Roll

Have you ever heard the saying C' make PT's?? Probably not unless you are in fact a PT or a student PT. I felt I was going to fit in with the saying quite nicely and was ok with that. I was just AMAZED that I got accepted to PT school in the first place and believe it or not 2 schools! Anyways, some how I have managed to pull off all As and Bs and have yet to get a C!! I hope I can keep this trend up, no guarantees but I will try!

I am bragging a bit which might be annoying to some, but I am just so happy and more than anything surprised that I have managed to pull it off! Now, I just need a bumper stick so my mom can put it on her car, right mom?? Wait that's just silly, I need one for my Dad's car too!

OCD at age 3

I have definitely not blogged about this amazing little guy nearly enough. Gage is my 3 year old gorgeous, intelligent, and obsessive compulsive nephew! During a recent conversation with my sister, she mentioned that Gage is very particular about certain things. He doesn't like to play in the living room when it is "messy" and would rather go to grandmas. My favorite of all is he can't stand when cupboards are left open or open at all JUST like ME!!! I hate when cupboards are left open!! The funnest conversation my mom told me about was Gage said"Grandma close the cupboard!! But Gage, I am in the cupboard getting something...close it Grandma!!!" Funniest thing! I can't wait to see the little cutie pie in 9 days!!!!

Offical Wine Taster...

I went to Palm Desert last weekend to meet up with Kellie and her girlfriends for a weekend of fun. While there we attended a private wine tasting at the Marriot. Although I got a pretty good starter lesson, I have so much more to learn. What I did learn is to: look at the color, swirl, smell (stick your WHOLE nose in the glass), and taste either by sucking it through your teeth or leaving the wine on your tongue and sucking air through it. The tasting included 6 different wines mostly from Napa Valley. My favorite wine out of the group was Summers Estate Cabernet Sauvignon paired with herb goat cheese and crackers, yum! It was a great experience and I look forward to learning more!

Why I love Kellie so....

She eats beans on toast for dinner. As an alternative she will just eat the can of beans "at least once a week".....Never a dull moment! Love Ya my darlin!

HEP (Home Exercise Program)

So what makes people think if they buy home exercise equipment that they will actually exercise?? I don't really know the answer to this question myself, however I have convinced myself that it would work! SO I found an exercise bike on Craigslist today (yes today the day I am supposed to be studying A LOT) and dashed out to pick it up. For $20 whole dollars I got an 80's exercise bike that I WILL use while watching tv, whenever that opportunity presents itself. It's convenient for studying, I already did for 20 minutes today.....

Yep that's right.

study break....venting session

This mini semester is almost over, I have finals Monday and Tuesday YIPPY! I start my first internship Nov 3rd at an Acute care hospital, can't wait to be out of the classroom!!
It has recently occurred to me that I learn a certain way and a certain way only. I am such a green personality type (add to my list of green) which means I am: analytic, rational, organized, responsive, independent, and need logical order.
SO being the Guinea pigs, is driving me bonkers!! I need structure, organization and very clear cut directions/instructions...is that too much to ask!?!?!?!?! Well it sure seems to be...
OK, Im done.

SoCal Wildfire Season has begun....

Almost a year ago I was woken at 6am by a phone call from a classmate telling me they were being evacuated and needed a place to go. My roommate and I ended up evacuating to her mom's house for a night to get away from the smokey air. We missed a whole week of school and it took 3 weeks to get caught up with all the missed time, NO fun at all! This picture was taken from my apartment complex, the fires were within a mile or so from us. The fire season has already begun and are within 20 miles of us now again.....I am praying that we don't go through what we did last year, I have 2 1/2 weeks left until I start my internship and I don't want that to be affected by these fires...we will wait and see....

Half Marathon!!

Yes, that's right I am going to be running 13.2 miles on February 1, 2009. http://www.runsurfcity.com/ . I will be running with Kellie and Allison and possibly some of my PT classmates! I have always wanted to do this, so no better time than the present! It will give me something to train for and maybe motivated me to workout more regularly. I plan to keep a training schedule and journal...more on my training schedule later. There is just something about keeping a journal that will motivated me to want to fill it up with running times and distances, etc... I am so excited right now to go buy the journal tomorrow so that I can enter my first workout into it from today. My run this morning consisted of: 0.6 mile run and then a 1 mile walk followed by a 0.5 mile run, hahahahahah! HOW SAD that I couldn't EVEN run one mile before taking a break!! I have A LOT of training a head of me!!! I know I can do it, I just have to put my mind to it and stick to my training schedule....I am very excited!!! Wish me Luck!!!!!

"You Crazy Cupcake lady, you are ruining our game!!"

So I think I have officially become a crazy cupcake lady. I really enjoy making cupcakes for people's birthdays. So over the years I have made many cupcakes as well as cake....so you would think I am a pro by now right!?! WRONG! I still can't figure out how far to fill the wrappers to avoid this....

I just bought a cupcake carrier that holds 36 cupcakes!!! wow! I was almost afraid I wasn't going to be able to find one...they were all sold out online at Bed Bath and Beyond (I have a 20%off coupon) and when I called the store they said they wouldn't have anymore for 4 weeks! So obviously very disappointed as well as shocked at the demand on these things...but some how they located one for me and I dashed out to pick it up (who cares about studying when a cupcake carrier was located!?). However, they only had a clear one when I wanted a pretty pink one....The man I talked to on the phone clearly thought I was crazy when I showed disappointment about not having a pink one.....clear will do. http://www.cupcakecourier.com/

The whole point of making cupcakes this weekend?? Kellie's 25th birthday! SO we went out to a really cool restaurant in downtown Long Beach to have Tapas and wine(Amazing food!) with some of her girl friends and I brought along the cupcakes. One of Kel's friends Allison is seriously one of the funniest people I have ever met (and if you know me I love to laugh)...so anyways at the end of dinner and birthday candle fun, the server asked if I need a container for the left over cupcakes... Allison quickly replayed "NO, she has the mother of all cupcake containers" (Me- Dying laughing) So walking out of the restaurant I was carrying the left over cupcakes, walking through crowds of partiers by this time.... Allison turned to me and said "You are ruining our game with those cupcakes"

I got a great ab workout that night from all the laughing and because I really couldn't get over how much conversation we had about the damn cupcakes! TOO Fun!

Kellie & Leslie Both celebrating birthdays....check out those candles the restaurant had....
